What is TUDCA?

In your body, TUDCA is produced through microbial processes. Bile salts are released into the intestine via the hepatic bile ducts. Microbes in the gut then metabolize the bile salts into ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). This is then linked to a taurine molecule to form TUDCA. Listed below are some of the main benefits of Tudca:

Bile Flow – TUDCA helps eliminate substances that block the flow of bile ducts in the liver. Some studies show that supplementing with TUDCA can help increase bile movement by 250%! TUDCA increases bile release while also improving the quality of the bile itself, directly benefiting your liver cells. The microorganisms in your gut produce more bile salts, thus producing more of your own TUDCA.

Mitochondria in Liver Tissue – When your liver bile ducts become blocked, your liver begins to die from the inside out at the cellular level. When your liver is unable to flush out pollutants and have them carried away by your intestines, large amounts of free radicals are produced in your liver cells. The mitochondria of these liver cells are attacked by all reactive oxygen species. This prevents them from doing their job of protein folding properly.
